We are delighted to announce that Prof Garry Crawford and Prof Scott Fleming have been conferred as fellows of the AcSS. Both Scott and Garry are active LSA members and advocates of leisure studies.

Garry is a Professor of Cultural Sociology, a Director of the University of Salford Digital Cluster and has authored eight books. He has worked at the University for ten years and is a proud alumnus, having graduated from Salford in 1995 with a degree in Sociology.
In addition to his University position, Garry is review editor for the journal Cultural Sociology. Speaking about the announcement, Garry said: ”It really is an honour to be conferred a Fellowship of the Academy alongside so many great scholars."

Professor Scott Fleming, took up a new post as Executive Dean: Research, Knowledge Exchange and External Engagement at Bishop Grosseteste University at the start of April. Scott has been a member of the LSA since 1988 and was its Chair between 2004 and 2010. He served on the Editorial Board of Leisure Studies between 2007 and 2016, including as Managing Co-Editor between 2010 and 2016. Scott commented, "I’m delighted to have received this honour. It’s an important acknowledgement of the continuing importance of leisure studies in research, scholarship and professional practice, and of the LSA as a leading subject association in the UK. I’m extremely grateful to colleagues with whom I have worked and collaborated who have contributed to this success."

Our chair, Thomas Fletcher commented:
"This is a wonderful individual achievement, but also testament to the LSA which has made a number of successful nominations in recent years, including former Chair Karl Spracklen who was also conferred last year. The LSA is committed to social science research and will continue to recognise the excellent work of its members by making future nominations. I hope members will join me in congratulating Garry and Scott."
